DOMINATE THE SURVIVAL MINDSET
Tips on Dominating the Survival Mindset
Through military deployments, trauma work, self-doubt, moments of weakness, and just the daily grind—I've learned that survival isn’t just about skills. It’s about motivation.
The scariest fights aren’t always physical. They’re internal.
When I teach self-defense, I say this often:
If I could get into Mike Tyson’s head—intimidate him into submission so that he's too scared to fight back—I could beat him.
Not because I’m stronger. But because of mindset.
Here’s the pro tip:
You need to predetermine your deepest motivation—before things get hard.
In chaos, we don’t have time to “figure it out.” We either have it—or we don’t.
And your motivation doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else.
The world might call it silly. Screw them. It’s yours, not theirs.
It needs to be something you’d lose an arm for. Something money couldn’t buy.
For many of us, it’s family.
For years, mine was my niece.
When she was six, she told me,
“Uncle Will, do whatever you have to do to get home safe.”
She gave me permission—pure, innocent, loving permission—to protect myself.
And that snapped something in me.
It let me bypass guilt and doubt and go straight into action.
That lesson stayed with me.
Now, I have a wife and a child. And my motivation is even deeper.
Because this isn’t just about surviving—it’s about returning home.
So here’s your challenge:
What’s your motivation?
Not the one you tell people to sound noble.
The real one.
The one that makes you unbreakable.
Figure it out now.
Because when survival is on the line, it’s too late to go looking for it.
Our mind can tune out pain when we know our motivation.
