White Tail Deer Hunting 101

  • Track Identification & Meanings

We can learn a lot from animal tracks. Tracks can tell us gender, direction of travel, size/weight, activity habits and travel patterns.

This is where it really starts.

  • Food Source Identification

Food sources are a must-have for any animal. Understanding what food sources are available in certain areas, and how the change of food source availability alters deer behavior is a must-know.

  • 7 Rules of Camouflage

Camouflage is often misunderstood. It goes way beyond throwing on some camo pants and shirt. That’s 1 of the 7 concepts of camouflage, and they all matter. Sometimes the type of clothes you wear matter less than the other 6 parts of camouflage.

  • Where to Set up for the Hunt

Choosing where exactly to set up for your hunt can be a headache. To name only a few things that play a role in where you set up: Wind, temperature variations, terrain, line of sight, distance from anticipated quarry based on your hunting weapon and your skillset.

  • Law - Need to Knows

Don’t get caught unprepared. Something that I’ve heard while speaking with Wildlife Officers/Game Wardens is “Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it."

We will cover how to find legally hunt-able areas, hunting on private property, paperwork, licenses and more.

  • Tree Stands vs Blinds vs Stalking

Your skillset, weapon and location all play a role what style of hunting you will engage in. There are pro’s and con’s to hunting from a tree stand versus a ground blind versus stalking (walking around looking for game.)

We will discuss and demonstrate so that you can see and experience first hand the pro’s and con’s of them all.
