Educational Event Success at Shining Rock High School

Two weeks ago, we hosted an educational event for Shining Rock High School with 20 tenth-grade students. The day was filled with challenges, camaraderie, and meaningful connections.

Most importantly, these young people exemplified the core values of Shining Rock High School. Their supportive, respectful behavior toward one another was remarkable—a testament to their school's excellent program in fostering positive youth development.

We're grateful to lead organizer Karina Huber for coordinating this successful event.

"Our 10th graders had an unforgettable experience at Piked Antler Survival School. From the moment they arrived, the students were fully engaged—learning hands-on skills like fire building, shelter construction, and litter creation. The highlight of the day was the team challenge, in which they had to put their new knowledge to the test. They worked together to assign roles, problem-solve with other teams, carry an ‘injured’ teammate to safety, navigate obstacles in the woods, and ultimately build and start a fire.

What stood out most was how deeply the experience was designed to reflect Shining Rock's core values. Students not only demonstrated resilience and teamwork but also encouraged one another with a positivity that impressed everyone involved.

We left the day inspired, proud, and grateful. Our students grew in confidence and character, and as teachers, we couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful experience. Piked Antler Survival School truly delivers an environment where young people can learn, grow, and shine."
