True Confidence: What It Really Means (And Why Most People Get It Wrong)

We live in a world obsessed with fake confidence. Motivational speakers tell you to look in the mirror and say you're awesome. But here's the truth nobody wants to hear: false confidence will get you in serious trouble, real quick.

The Hidden Cost of Childhood Trauma

Growing up with unresolved childhood trauma creates a severe lack of inner confidence that follows you into adulthood. The real answer is resolving that trauma at its source, but that takes time. What I've discovered is that you can jumpstart the process by building genuine confidence in your capabilities first.

Here's the powerful part: by building processes that develop real self-confidence, you can apply those same processes to any other obstacle—like finally starting trauma therapy, wilderness therapy, or taking that sabbatical you've been putting off.

What True Confidence Actually Looks Like

To me, confidence is knowing what you're capable of AND what you're NOT capable of. That combination creates unshakeable inner strength.

I've learned that no problems matter if you're dead. So I put life-and-death skills at the top of my confidence-building list.

My Journey: From Victim to Victor

I got jumped during my first month of high school. It scared the hell out of me because I'd never even seen a real fight. I realized I was completely incapable of defending myself.

After high school, I joined the military, then dove into MMA for three years. That training transformed me from the guy who puffed his chest out—even though I was 6'3" and 240 pounds. All that posturing was really just me begging "please don't mess with me." MMA changed me into someone who genuinely knows his capabilities.

Only 3% of Americans currently train martial arts. I'm part of that 3%. That knowledge removes enormous stress from simply existing in the world.

Extending to Wilderness Survival

I immersed myself in wilderness survival for over a decade. Now I know I can survive the cold, wet, heat, hunger, thirst—even eating insects that would make most people gag. I've proven I can stay alive indefinitely in the wild.

Between martial arts and wilderness skills, both people and nature are far less dangerous to me than they once were. Not because I'm invincible, but because my skill set is packed with tested, proven capabilities.

Your Next Step

If this speaks to you, it's time to tap into that nagging thought you've been ignoring—the one that says "I need adventure, purpose, and real connection."

When we avoid nurturing ourselves, everything else suffers. Your relationships, your work, your family—everyone pays the price.

If you've read this far, this message is for you. We have events in 2026 designed to give you real skills, boost genuine confidence, and provide adventures that'll make you feel truly alive.
